We arrived at Distant Drums RV Resort in Camp Verde after a downhill drive that brought warmer weather by the mile.
The next day we filled up at the local, sculpture-adorned gas station, then toured the Camp Verde area, visiting Montezuma Castle to see the cliff dwellings there.
The next day we roamed further afield, first to Tuzigoot, home to the Sinagua Indians a thousand years ago,
then to Jerome, a once bustling, now small, mining town situated on the side of a mountain.
The Jerome State Historic Park set up a fascinating museum in the former Douglas Mansion. (The Douglas family owned the copper/silver/gold mine in town.)
On the 4th we visited Sedona, going uphill to a vista (and freezing in the wind), then taking a very scenic drive around town.
The last day at Camp Verde brought a short drive to the Montezuma Well. The area looked fairly non-descript until you came to a rise and saw the well and accompanying cliff dwelling (just above the tree). It was a different world at water level.
Back at the RV site, we were greeted by a beautiful sunset. Farewell to Camp Verde!
